What to expect

I got a newly diagnosed this week. And I don’t know what to expect like can you live a normal life ? What are some challenges and what does everyone do to cope ? I find that my body hurts literally every day although I’m OK with that I push through it and just try to go on about my life. My sleeping patterns have been horrible like I want to sleep and my body does not want me to stay asleep I find myself tossing and turning almost as if I just need to move all the time, but I want to sleep has anyone dealt with that?

  1. I had really bad insomnia at the start of my attack and for a good while after. I started taking Magnesium Citrate everyday and it helped a lot! also try to relax, stress makes your body tense and I know this diagnosis is hard to swallow, it gets better to deal with and things will hopefully get better. You will have to change your perspective of a ‘normal life’ because you’re going to live your life regardless it being the same as before or different. You just have to adapt. For the pain, you could ask your neuro for pain meds for the nerve pain. I had to go through 2/3 different types of painkillers until I found the right one for me. But even though I found the right pain med, the pain doesn’t dissappear completely. There are always some aches present. I hope you find things easier to deal with soon, we’re all here for you❤️.

    1. Take it one day at a time. Every day is different, and every day you will feel different. Some good days, and some bad. You will get accustomed to how your body handles symptoms, but it's still very hard mentally and physically. Take care of your mental health so you can cope with such a life-changing diagnosis. The good thing is we have a kick-butt community. If you need any links to support groups, links on NMOSD, and organizations that support our disease.
You can do this warrior, we are here for you.

      1. Have you spoken with your Doctor about your insomnia?
